At half past three in the afternoon, as I told you yesterday, our dear Father was almost unconscious, apparently seeing and hearing nothing. This lasted until two this afternoon. Suddenly, he woke up and opened his eyes. He was shown a crucifix and we said to him, \"Jesus, Mary and Joseph, In manus tuas Domine, commendo spiritum meum\". He saw, understood and was transformed. It was very beautiful. We were convinced that he had had some sort of vision. They began the Magnificat in the chapel and he expired.

Death of François Libermann at about 15.45, while the community is singing the Magnificat of the Vespers of the Feast of the Purification. Père Ignace Schwindenhammer takes over as interim Superior General as Vicar General of the Congregation.

1951 Nigeria
Fr Anthony Nwedo is the first Nigerian to profess as a Spiritan at Kilshane, Ireland. He had been ordained a diocesan priest in 1945. He was also the first Nigerian bishop to head a diocese in 1959.
1976 Trans-Canada
The District of Ontario becomes a Province. The superior, Fr. Michael Doyle, is named the first Provincial.
1989 E.A.F.
The East African Foundation becomes the East African Province with Fr Daniel Macha as its first Provincial.
1990 Brazil Province
Brazil becomes the 19th Province of the Congregation.
1990 Bagamoyo
The end of the District of Bagamoyo. The remaining group of Dutch confreres now come directly under the General Council.
A 3h1/2 de l’après-midi, ainsi que je vous l’ai dit hier, notre cher Père était à peu près sans connaissance, ne semblant plus rien voir ni entendre. Cela a duré à peu près jusqu’à aujourd’hui à 2 heures de l’après-midi... Tout à coup il se réveille, il ouvre les yeux, on lui montre le Crucifix; on lui dit: Jésus, Marie, Joseph, In manus tuas, Domine, commendo spiritum meum. Il voit, il comprend, il entre dans un ravissement admirable... Oh! Que c’était beau! Nous ne pouvons douter qu’il n’ait eu une vue spirituelle... On commence le Magnificat à la chapelle(la communauté chante Vêpres), il va expirer d’ici la fin.

Le Père Anthony Nwedo est le premier Nigérian à faire profession comme Spiritain à Kilshane, Irlande. Il avait été ordonné prêtre diocésain en 1945. Il fut aussi le premier évêque Nigérian à diriger un diocèse en 1959.

Le District de l'Ontario est érigé en Province. Le P. Michel Doyle, supérieur du District en devient le premier Provincial.

La Fondation devient Province de l’Afrique de l’Est, avec le Père Daniel Macha comme premier Provincial.

Le Brésil devient la dix neuvième Province de la Congrégation.

Fin du district de Bagamoyo. Le groupe de Spiritains néerlandais qui reste, dépend directement de la Maison Généralice.
Às 3.30 da tarde, como já vos disse ontem, o nosso querido Pai começava pouco a pouco a perder o conhecimento, parecendo não ver nem compreender nada. Isso durou mais ou menos até hoje às 2 horas da tarde... De repente desperta, abre os olhos, mostramo-lhe o crucifixo; dizemo-lhe: Jesus, Maria José, In manus tuas, Domine, commendo spiritum meum. Ele vê, compreende, entra num êxtase admirável... Oh! Como era belo! Não podemos duvidar que tenha tido uma visão espiritual... Começa o Magnificat na capela (a comunidade canta as Vésperas), ele vai expirar durante o cântico.
