When the Society of the Holy Heart of Mary had passed through many trials to which the Lord, in his goodness, allowed it to be ex-posed, and had gained a sufficient growth and stability, it appeared that the plan of God was that it should join together with the Congregation of the Holy Spirit; in this way, the different parts of the work to which the two societies were committed would be completed and they would then form a whole unit. All the difficulties disap-peared which had seemed so intractable up to that point, so towards the end of 1848, the members of both societies joined together.

1901 Senegal
Mgr. Kunemann is ordained bishop by Mgr. Le Roy on Pentecost Sunday. The Vicariat now has 35 Spiritans priests and 22 brothers, 6 Senegambian seculars, and 127 sisters from different congregations. There are 20 mission stations in all.

1930 Makurdi
The German Spiritans arrive in the Benue area of Nigeria to start evangelisation. The Prefect Apostolic is Mgr. Philip Winterle.
1985 Angola
Death at Malanje of Jean-Etienne Wozniak (France) aged 29, who had been in Angola for only one year. He and John Kingston (Ireland) ran into an ambush as they approached the mission of Kiwaba.
La société du Saint Cœur de Marie ayant passé par beaucoup d’épreuves auxquelles la divine bonté devait la soumettre, et acquis la consistance et l'accroissement nécessaires, il sembla qu'il était dans les desseins de Dieu qu'elle accomplît son union avec la congrégation du Saint-Esprit, afin de perfectionner les différentes parties de l'œuvre dont s'occupaient les deux sociétés et d'en former une complète. Toutes les difficultés, qui, jusqu'alors, s'opposaient invinciblement à cette fusion disparurent, et vers la fin de l'année 1848 s'opéra la réunion de tous les membres de la société du Saint Cœur de Marie à la société du Saint-Esprit.

Consécration épiscopale de Mgr Kunemann par Mgr Le Roy, le jour de la Pentecôte. Le Vicariat compte alors 35 prêtres et 22 Frères spiritains, 6 prêtres sénégambiens, 80 Sœurs de Cluny, 17 de l'Immaculée Conception et 20 Filles du Saint-Cœur de Marie. Il y a 20 stations de mission.

1985 Angola
Mort à Malanje de Jean-Etienne Wozniak (France), âgé de 29 ans, en Angola depuis seulement 1 an. Lui et John Kingston (Irlande) sont tombés dans une embuscade en approchant de la mission de Kiwaba.
A Sociedade do Sagrado Coração de Maria tendo passado por muitas provas às quais a bondade divina a devia submeter, e adquirido a consistência e crescimento necessários, pareceu estar nos desígnios de Deus que ela se fundisse com a Congregação do Espírito Santo, a fim de aperfeiçoar as diferentes partes da obra em que se ocupavam as duas sociedades e formar uma completa. Todas as dificuldades que até agora se opunham invencivelmente a esta fusão desapareceram, e pelos fins de 1848 realizou-se a reunião de todos os seus membros da Sociedade do Sagrado Coração de Maria com a Sociedade do Espirito Santo.

Morte em Malange, do P. Jean-Eienne Wozniak, Espiritano francês, de 29 anos, estando há pouco mais de um ano em Angola. Ele e John Kingston, confrade irlandês, estavam a chegar à missão de Kiwaba, quando caíram numa emboscada.
