The Congregation of the Holy Spirit rejoices at the announcement that the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has appointed Bishop Pierre Jubinville, C.S.Sp., as the new Bishop of San Lorenzo, Paraguay, transferring him from the Diocese of San Pedro Apóstol, where he has faithfully served since 2013.
Bishop Pierre Jubinville was born in Ottawa, Canada, on 5 August 1960. He received part of his education at Collège Saint-Alexandre in Hull (now Gatineau), a school entrusted to the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. He entered the Spiritan pre-novitiate in Quebec City and completed his novitiate in Farnham, making his first profession on 1 August 1981.
After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from the University of Montreal in 1984, he began his missionary life in Kongolo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, serving there from 1984 to 1987. Following further formation in Montreal, he made his perpetual profession on 3 January 1988 and was ordained to the priesthood on 17 September 1988.
In 1990, he earned a Licentiate in Religious Studies from the Catholic Institute of Paris. His missionary ministry then led him to serve in Mexico and subsequently in Paraguay, where he carried out various pastoral and formative responsibilities. These included parish ministry in the Diocese of San Pedro, the formation of Spiritan aspirants and postulants in Asunción, and service as Superior of the Spiritan community in Asunción.
In 2012, he was elected First Assistant to the Superior General of the Congregation. The following year, he was appointed Bishop of San Pedro Apóstol, Paraguay, a ministry he has exercised with dedication for more than a decade.
As a Congregation, we give thanks to God for Bishop Pierre’s generous missionary witness and his committed service to the Church and to the Spiritan family. We assure him of our prayers as he begins this new pastoral mission in the Diocese of San Lorenzo.
Congratulations, Bishop Pierre! May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen you in your new episcopal and pastoral endeavor.
