If only easy things were to be undertaken in the Church, what would have become of the Church? Saint Peter and Saint John would have continued to fish on Lake Tibériade, and Saint Paul would never have left Jerusalem. I imagine that a man who thinks he is someone great and relies on his own powers may be stopped before an obstacle, but when we rely on our Master alone, what difficulty can we fear?
Francis Libermann
Cf. Spiritual Letters, II, 475, 1840.
Francisco Libermann
Cf. Cartas Espirituais, II, 475, 1840.
Gradually, the faith-perspective of St. Paul and François Libermann began to take hold: 'For it is when I am weak that I am strong' (2Cor 12:10). The trust of our contemporary Spiritans seemed to echo that of our ancestors in the faith: Laval, Brottier, Shanahan. Further back stood des Places, who refused to stop believing in the young men of his time, and Libermann, whose personal life illustrated one of the main threads of today's missionary spirituality waiting for God.

The Bulletin of the province gives the number of confreres who died during the Second World War: 9 priests, 5 brothers and 9 scholastics.
