On this day
It is necessary that souls to develop a very strong habit of never stopping to ponder over the graces of Our Lord in them. Their mind must be borne towards our Master to love him unceasingly and particularly in each activity, in order to please him, and be acceptable to him in each one of them, and do it in his love.

If St. Paul had reasoned along those lines, he would never have achieved so much for the glory of God. We also must be generous and not be fearful for the fate of our little Congregation. Obviously, we must not be imprudent and we must avoid unnecessary risks; but neither can we insist on guaranteed success before embarking on a new project. If we are not totally committed to the service of Jesus in his Church, and ready to sacrifice everything, then there is not much point in us coming together.

An agreement for unification is reached by those in charge of the two Congregations. The following signatures appear on the document: For the Congregation of the Holy Spirit: Frs. Monnet, Warnet, Gaultier, Hardy and Vidal; For the Missionaries of the Holy Heart of Mary: Frs. Libermann, Briot, Boulanger, and François and Ignace Schwindenhammer. On the proposal of Fr. Monet, François Libermann is chosen as Superior General by acclamation.
1888 Portugal
The death of P. Charles Duparquet at Loango in the Congo. With his vision and capacity for dialogue, he played a decisive part in the foundation of the Portuguese Province and the sending of Spiritan missionaries to Angola.
1972 Ethiopia
Frs. Edward Kelly and William Jackson set out to open a mission of first evangelisation at Dadim among the Borana people; it is a joint undertaking with the Dutch Province.
Ne faites pas ce mauvais raisonnement : qu’il faut d’abord aller au certain avant d’embrasser l’incertain. Si Saint Paul avait raisonné ainsi, il n’aurait pas fait tant de choses pour la gloire de Dieu. Nous devons être généreux et ne pas tant trembler pour le bien de notre petite Congrégation. Pas faire d’imprudences, pas nous laisser entraîner à des imaginations sans raison ; mais ne pas vouloir le succès assuré avant de commencer une oeuvre. Si nous ne sommes pas entièrement dévoués au service de Jésus-Christ dans son Eglise, et prêts à tout sacrifier, ce n’était pas la peine de nous réunir.

Monnet, Supérieur général, Warnet, Gaultier, Hardy et Vidal; pour les Missionnaires du Saint-Cœur de Marie : MM. Libermann, Supérieur, Briot, Boulanger, François et Ignace Schwindenhammer. M. Monnet fait acclamer M. Libermann comme Supérieur général (élection encore informelle).

Mort du P. Charles Duparquet à Loango (Congo). Grâce à ses conceptions et à sa capacité de dialogue, il a joué une part décisive dans la fondation de la Province du Portugal et l’envoi de missionnaires spiritains en Angola.

Les pères Edward Kelly et William Jackson partent ouvrir une mission de première évangélisation à Dadim, parmi les Borana ; la Province des Pays-Bas s’associe à cet engagement.

Nós devemos ser generosos e não nos assustarmos tanto pelo bem da nossa pequena Congregação. Nada de imprudências, nada de nos deixarmos arrastar por raciocínios irrazoáveis; não querer o sucesso assegurado antes de começar uma obra. Se não estivermos totalmente dedicados ao serviço de Jesus Cristo na sua Igreja, não valerá a pena reunirmo-nos.

Assinaram: pela Congregação do Espírito Santo: MM Monnet, Superior Geral, Warnet, Gaultier, Hardy e Vidal; pelos missionários do Sagrado Coração de Maria: P. Libermann, Superior, Briot, Boulanger, François e Inácio Schwindenhammer. M. Monnet fez aclamar o P. Libermann como Superior Geral (eleição informal).

Falecimento do P. Carlos Duparquet no Loango, Congo. Teve um papel decisivo tanto na Fundação da Província de Portugal como na ida dos Missionários do Espírito Santo para Angola. A sua visão e capacidade de diálogo foram determinantes para a história da Província.
1972 Etiópia
Os Padres Edward Kelly e William Jackson partiram para iniciar uma missão de primeira evangelização em Dadim entre o povo Borana na Etiópia. A Província da Holanda associa-se a este compromisso.
