1866 Ireland
The first two Irish Spiritans are ordained to the priesthood: Fr Thomas Bracken is appointed to Sierra Leone and Fr William Power to Chandernagor in India.
1872 Portugal
The General Council sets up the community of Braga to replace that of Santarém-Gibraltar. It is dedicated to St. Geraldo, the patron of Braga.
1882 C.S.Sp.
Opening of the 5th General Chapter at Chevilly which will last for two days. The 32 capitulants (20 present and 12 by letter) elect Ambrose Emonet as the 14th Superior General.
1914 France
Père Daniel Brottier volunteers as a military chaplain at the outbreak of the First World War and is appointed to the 26th Infantry Division. His courage and devotion during the next four years gain him the respect and admiration of all.
1985 South Africa
P. Joseph Zeph, aged 50, is stabbed to death by robbers in the mission of Sheridan. He arrived in the Diocese of Bethlehem in 1963 and was Vicar General from 1979-1982.
Que le Bon Dieu épargne ceux qui restent, et abrège ces jours pénibles. ~ La saison est dure: les Africains ne sont pas à leur aise depuis quelques semaines. Personnellement, je tiens comme je peux. Si seulement cette terrible guerre pouvait prendre fin ! ~ Que le Bon Dieu se laisse toucher et arrête ces hécatombes humaines, inouïes dans l'histoire des peuples. ~ Je me sens terriblement fatigué, mais je crois que je tiendrai jusqu'au bout.~ Voici terminée l'horrible aventure qui a coûté tant de sang et de larmes . ~ Me voici donc sauf. ~. après avoir frôlé la mort pendant 4 ans.

Le P. Daniel Brottier, aumônier militaire bénévole au cours de la 1ère guerre mondiale, est affecté à la 26ème division d'infanterie. Ce furent 4 années d’une ‘terrible guerre’ où son courage et son constant dévouement lui méritèrent le respect et l’estime de tous.
1985 Afrique du Sud
Le P. Joseph Zeph, âgé de 50 ans, (Allemagne) est poignardé à mort par des bandits à la mission de Sheridan. Il était arrivé en 1963 dans le diocèse de Betlehem, dont il fut vicaire général de 1972 à 1982.
Que Deus poupe os que restam, e abrevie estes dias terríveis... Este tempo é duro: os africanos não estão à vontade desde algumas semanas. Pessoalmente vou andando como posso. Se ao menos esta guerra terrível acabasse!... Que o bom Deus se deixe enternecer e afaste estas hecatombes humanas, inauditas na história dos povos... Sinto-me terrivelmente fatigado, mas creio que aguentarei até ao fim...Eis terminada a horrível aventura que custou tanto sangue e tantas lágrimas... Eis-me são e salvo... depois de durante 4 anos a morte ter passado ao meu lado.

O P. Daniel Brottier, capelão militar voluntário, é afectado à 26ª divisão de infantaria. Foram 4 anos duma guerra terrível em que a sua coragem e a sua constante dedicação lhe mereceram o respeito e a estima de todos.
1985 África do Sul
O P. Joseph Zept, 50 anos, (da Alemanha) é encontrado apunhalado de morte por ladrões na missão de Sheridan. Tinha partido como jovem missionário para a Diocese de Bethlehem em 1963 e foi Vigário Geral da diocese de 1979 a 1982.
