Never a man in the world is capable of forcing either the consciences, the will, or the intelligences of his fellow human being. God did not want to do it, why would we want to do it? God gives to these men the freedom to ignore him, to act against him, we must not try to force them or be irritated against them. On the contrary, we must love them, be free and open with them, speak with them about all sorts of things that please them, endeavour to win their friendship by always showing them good mien.
Francis Libermann
Cf. Notes and Documents, IX, 248, 1847.
Francisco Libermann
Cf. Notas e Documentos, IX, 248, 1847.
It is relatively easy to undertake a mission and to try to be success-ful with the grace of God. But to draw all one's resources together to increase, spread and strengthen this success, to create a work that is solid and stable, to protect it from the wiles of the enemies who seek to destroy it, to foresee obstacles and to take steps to avoid or overcome them, to build this apostolic work of Jesus Christ on an unshakeable foundation- these are all difficult things and the re-sponsibility for them rests on us who are in charge of this important work.
Libermann: Presentation of the "Memorandum on Missions", 15.08.1846. NDVIII, p.219-220
