The man who generously embraces the perfect abnegation of himself, has a soul full of peace, ardour and energy. He is a thousand times happier than he who allows himself to be conquered by those cowardly groping of a very weak heart, too attached to creature. The grace of God fills him, sustains him, and gives him consolations unknown to the souls who are afraid of losing everything, by leaving the earthly consolations.

L’homme qui embrasse généreusement, la parfaite abnégation de lui-même, a l’âme pleine de paix, d’ardeur et d’énergie. Il est mille fois plus heureux que celui qui se laisse vaincre par ces lâches tâtonnements d’un coeur trop faible, trop attaché à la créature. La grâce de Dieu le remplit, le soutient, et lui donne des consolations inconnues aux âmes qui craignent de tout perdre, en quittant les consolations de la terre.

A alma do homem que abraça generosamente a perfeita abnegação de si mesmo está repleta de paz, de ardor e de energia. Ele é mil vezes mais feliz do que aquele que se deixa vencer pelas hesitações covardes dum coração demasiado fraco, demasiado apegado à criatura. A graça de Deus enche-o, sustenta-o, e proporciona-lhe consolações desconhecidas das almas que receiam perder tudo, ao deixar as consolações da terra.

I am thoroughly convinced that God has destined all of us for purposes of special mercy and sanctity. This makes me most anxious to give you these few instructions and to inspire you to that holiness which our special calling demands and to which Jesus in his goodness wishes us to advance without delay, as well as to share with you whatever light I may have received.
