Having been divinely sent to the nations that she might be "the universal sacrament of salvation", the Church, in obedience to the command of her founder (Mt 16:15) and because it is demanded by her own universality, strives to preach the Gospel to all people. The apostles, on whom the Church was founded, following the footsteps of Christ, preached the word of truth and begot Churches. It is the duty of their successors to carry on this work.
